Where to stay in NYC – Gramercy Park Hotel

Post on facebook about Gramercy Park Hotel

I had a meeting in New York recently. Usually I like to add a few days before or after something like this so I can “research” the destination while I’m there BUT because this meeting fell in between two longer trips I wasn’t able to do that this time. Two nights in New York was all I was going to get this time.

However, being the hotel geek that I am, I did manage to check out two hotels while I was there. (One each night) Hotel number one – The Gramercy Park Hotel on Lexington between 22nd and 21st Streets.

I loved this hotel. Want proof? To the right is a screenshot of a post to my facebook wall right after I checked in.

Here’s what I loved about the hotel:

  • Location. On a quiet, tree-lined street, right next to Gramarcy Park. I didn’t have time to visit the park but did use the fitness center which has a lovely view. Great people watching from the treadmill.
  • It’s fun! And funky and just a really cool place. It feels a little Medieval castle, mixed with some creepy Twilight Zone 40’s haunted hotel and a dash of Tim Burton. I loved it.  (I’m sure there are more appropriate, technical design terms that could be used to describe this hotel. I don’t know them, though, so you’re stuck with my non-designer terms.)

Here’s what you should know:

  • It’s in a quieter, more residential neighborhood. If you want to be in the middle of all the action 24/7 this might not be the place for you. If you’d like a quiet place to get a break from the madness, this is perfect.
  • It’s a little dark and quirky so definitely not for you if you need light, airy or traditional.
